TOYOTA HIACE 2005 XLWB HIGH ROOF – 3.0 DIESEL – FULLY EQUIPPED / TURN-KEY CAMPERVAN
XLWB / Super Long Wheelbase • High Roof • 3.0L Diesel • Manual • 3 Front Seats • Green Self-Contained
After several months travelling around New Zealand, we are selling our fully converted and equipped Toyota Hiace, ready to head straight off on its next road trip.
We chose this van for three things that really make a difference when travelling and living in a van for an extended period: the huge XLWB + High Roof interior, the robust Toyota 3.0L naturally aspirated diesel engine, and a genuinely comfortable and self-sufficient setup for two people.
The van comes with all the equipment we currently use: bedding, fully equipped kitchen, gas bottle, table and chairs, awning, storage, water containers and much more. Pick up the keys, put your belongings inside and hit the road.
🔧 TOYOTA 5L 3.0 DIESEL – SIMPLE & ROBUST
Under the bonnet is Toyota’s 5L 3.0L / 2,986cc naturally aspirated diesel engine, with no turbo.
It is a simple and proven engine designed with durability and longevity in mind rather than outright performance. No turbo also means less mechanical complexity and one less expensive component to maintain or replace.
It is not unusual to see diesel Hiaces of this generation exceed 500,000 km when properly maintained.
The van currently has approximately 337,000 km and should have around 340,000 km at the time of sale, with an extensive and documented maintenance history.
Fuel consumption observed during our own road trip: approximately 8–9 L/100 km, which is very reasonable for a fully converted XLWB High Roof van.

🇳🇿 NEW ZEALAND NEW – FIRST 17 YEARS IN PROFESSIONAL OWNERSHIP
This Hiace is New Zealand New and was first registered in New Zealand in February 2005.
For its first 17 years, it belonged to companies and organisations rather than private owners. In particular, it spent 12 years, from 2010 to 2022, with IHC New Zealand.
This long first part of its life was therefore spent in a professional environment, with professional servicing and maintenance, before beginning its second life as a travelling campervan.
It only began being used as a campervan from 2022.
Another very practical feature inherited from its previous use is the retractable step underneath the sliding side door, making getting in and out easier.
🚐 XLWB + HIGH ROOF – SPACIOUS, INSULATED & VERY BRIGHT
This is not a standard-size Hiace. It is the large XLWB / Super Long Wheelbase + High Roof version, approximately 5.20 m long and 2.22 m high externally.
For two people, the extra space makes a real difference: large bed, kitchen, fridge, plenty of storage and enough room to live comfortably inside when the weather is not on your side.
The interior is particularly bright thanks to the numerous large side windows, all of which slide open, providing great views and plenty of ventilation.
The windows have blackout curtains for nighttime and privacy.
The living area is insulated at both floor and ceiling level. The floor has a wood finish and the High Roof is fully lined with a light-coloured, soft, padded interior covering.
The front cab is separated from the living area, providing additional privacy and insulation. The partition is also used as a large vertical storage area with bungee cords.
🛏️ LARGE 2.10 × 1.50 M BED WITH PROPER SLATTED BASE
The bed measures 2.10 × 1.50 m, providing a genuinely large and comfortable sleeping area for two people.
It sits on a proper slatted bed base, improving comfort and allowing air to circulate underneath the mattress to help reduce condensation and moisture.
A dual-zone electric heated blanket is included. Each side can be switched on and adjusted independently, with 3 heat settings.
Bedding is also included.
📦 HUGE STORAGE SPACE
Under the bed is a very large storage area covering practically the entire 2.10 × 1.50 m footprint, organised with fitted storage boxes.
There is also additional built-in storage throughout the van, including the large vertical storage area behind the cab.
☀️ 300 W SOLAR – SELF-SUFFICIENT EVEN WHEN PARKED
The van has 300 W of solar power from 2 × 150 W panels connected to a 30 A MPPT solar controller.
The auxiliary battery is separate from the starter battery and powers the camper equipment independently. It is recharged by the solar panels while parked and can also be charged from the alternator while driving.
Electrical setup includes:
• 300 W solar
• 30 A MPPT controller
• Separate auxiliary battery
• 600 W / 240 V Pure Sine Wave inverter
• Bluetooth auxiliary-battery monitoring from a smartphone
• Brass Monkey compressor fridge
• LED lighting
• Electric water pump
• Power outlets and charging for electronic devices
💧 UP TO 75 L OF FRESH WATER CAPACITY
• 25 L fresh water in the main system
• Sink + electric water pump
• 2 × 20 L collapsible fresh-water containers
• Additional 10 L fresh-water container
• 25 L grey-water tank
This provides up to 75 L of transportable fresh water.
🚿 TWO OFF-GRID SHOWER OPTIONS
Two shower systems are included:
• 20 L solar shower
• Independent electric shower with its own pump and proper shower head
A large collapsible basin can be used as the water reservoir for the electric shower. Water can also be heated on the gas stove and mixed with cold water, allowing a genuinely hot shower off-grid without relying on campsite facilities.
🍳 PROPER KITCHEN WITH TWO LARGE WORKTOPS
The conversion includes two large worktops, providing plenty of room for cooking and food preparation.
The two-burner stove uses a refillable gas bottle, included with the van, and can easily be moved outside.
All kitchen equipment needed for travelling is included: pots, frying pan, grill, cutlery, cooking utensils, chopping board, food-storage containers, towels, tea towels and more.
⛺ 2.4 × 3 M AWNING – 7.2 M² OF COVERED OUTDOOR SPACE
The van comes with a large removable 2.4 × 3 m awning, providing an additional 7.2 m² of covered outdoor living space.
The complete setup is included, together with a folding table and camping chairs.
