Based in our experience, the most popular campervans are the ones that have enough room to sit inside while keeping a budget, tipycally under the 15,000$NZD mark.
- Such models are: Nissan Serena, Honda Stepwagon, Honda Elysion and Nissan El Grand.
If you are looking for something bigger (Long Wheel Base type), you can find Nissan Caravan’s and Toyota HIACE’s, being the most demanded larger vans.
Prices vary depending on the model, year, kms and interior, same as any extras you want to include.

What's at The Back?
Our campervans, as part of the self-contained certification requirements, include two water tanks (one for fresh water and one for wastewater), a water pump, and a sink.
There is also space for a gas cooker and a table extension, giving you more room to cook outdoors.
The kitchen layout can also be redesigned to fit a fridge. It can be installed in the kitchen area or under one of the front storage compartments.

💰 Pricing & Expected Fees When Buying a Campervan
The price of buying a campervan from a dealer already includes GST (15%).
In the New Zealand campervan market, you’ll often find private sellers asking similar prices to dealers, or sometimes even more. This doesn’t make much sense, as private sales do not include a legal warranty, after-sales support, or the many other benefits you get when buying from a registered dealer.
At the end of the day, prices are determined by supply and demand.
Other ongoing costs include:
- Registration: around $25 per month
- RUC (Road User Charges): Diesel vehicles only
- Insurance: from around $40 per month, depending on the vehicle and your circumstances
